The ID Question - You never think you need it until you really need it

I need to wear or carry ID - really.......can't see the point.

We'll this is what you may think up until the point that your involved in an accident, your child becomes separated from you or your pet decides not to come back on your daily walk.

The fact is carrying ID is not something that you consider important until the point that you, your child, or your pet really needs it. If they aren't carry ID at this point then it's a little late in the day to wish that you had ID.

Better be safe than sorry and consider an ID product that suits your needs and then it will be there in the event you need it.

Press Release - Worker Safety ID (UK)

Following their success in the Canadian construction industry health and safety sector this year, Vital ID, the specialist leisure and industrial ID company, is launching its newly designed Hard Hat Safety ID product in to the UK construction industry this month.

The Hard Hat Safety ID product contains vital personal and medical information which can be easily accessed by first line attendees or medics in the event of an accident or sickness at the work site. The information provided helps deliver rapid and appropriate medical assistance, as well as confirming the identification of the individual concerned and their family contact details.

The personal information in the Hard Hat Safety ID can be provided at the discretion of the individual and is protected by a tamper resistant feature. The information can be amended.

The Hard Hat Safety ID tag adheres to the hard hat and is highly visible even in low light conditions. The protective sleeve is made of highly reflective 3M ScotchLite material. Vital ID are targeting the product at Health and Safety professionals who take a proactive approach to augment existing procedures at construction sites and other similar work environments.

The product is already part of the Health and Safety regime in the Canadian construction industry in three states - British Columbia, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Since adopting the product in April this year Cathy Lange, Executive Director Construction Safety Association British Columbia, has stated that "The great thing about these is that it provides medical personnel with immediate access to health issues and emergency contact information if a worker is involved in a serious accident or has a health crisis while on the job". She concluded that, "This could potentially save a life under certain conditions".

The Hard Hat Safety ID product launched in the UK this month contains a number of enhancements and refinements based on collaboration with the Health and Safety team at Costain. As Paul Cunningham, Project SHE explained, "We see the Hard Hat Safety ID product as a valuable low cost way of improving health and safety at the work site. We have been successfully trialling it on site for some months, providing feedback to Vital ID, which they have taken on board." Paul explained further, "We also like the fact that the Hard Hat Safety ID also involves the sites workers in the health and safety process. In fact, we introduce the product and its work site benefits during the induction of new staff. We're making it part of our health and safety culture."

The Hard Hat Safety ID product is currently available via Bunzl Greenham Safety and Workplace Supplies.

Fall Is Approching - Running / Cycling Safety

The nights are becoming longer and the daylight hours shorter as we move from summer to fall. Cycling or running at this time of year becomes more difficult and often takes place at dawn before work or after work. Wear runner ID

As the light levels drop as does our visibility to other road users and as such to stay safe you must be vigilant and wear clothing & runner ID that allows you to be seen by others.

Wearing clothing / accessories including runner ID that are bright and colourful rather than dark black / brown is a wise choice as is the use of reflective clothing / accessories to make you highly visible to others.

Often running & cycling shoes have a reflective element on the back of the shoe but this is best viewed as a minimum that needs to be supplemented in the winter months when low-light conditions prevail. Wearing reflective vests or bibs and also supplement your clothing / bike reflectors by use of cost effective reflective adhesive tapes commonly found by companies such as 3M.

At Vital ID we have taken the integration of reflective elements for use in cycling / running to a further degree and incorporated reflective materials into each of our Sports ID / Runner ID products. The Sport ID wristband and the Sport ID shoe incorporate 3M Scotchlite silver reflective material and the Sport ID - helmet product utilizes 3M Scotchlite yellow reflective vinyl.

The reflective runner ID products are the ideal partner for other reflective clothing you may wear and have the added bonus of carrying your personal runner ID whilst you exercise.

Although to maybe wearing reflective clothing, it is still prudent to assume drives cannot see you (which is often difficult due to the glare of other cars headlights / rain/ foggy windshields etc) and avoid busy roads after dark if possible.

Being cautious when exercising after dark and the use of reflective materials to maximise your chances of avoiding any accident and wearing runner ID will allow you to safely run or cycle throughout the dark winter months.
