Active seniors - the importance of carrying ID

Today's baby boomer generation are increasingly active, conscious that regular exercise is important in maintaining health as we age.

Equally important for active seniors to consider is the importance of carrying a form of identification when we exercise and this is important if exercising alone and away from home. For active seniors, this requirement to carry ID is especially important as many seniors have a greater likelihood of having medical conditions over and above those that younger people may suffer from.

In recent months, there have been a number of stories in the media where active seniors have suffered a medical incident when exercising away from home and as they were not carrying any form of identification, paramedics did not know their identity or if they had any medical conditions or allergies that they need to be aware of to provide effective medical treatment.

In a situation where the active senior cannot communicate with first responders / paramedics, they are unable to provide vital information that could ensure rapid tailored medical treatment and ensure their loved ones are immediately contacted and notified of their situation.

If you are an active senior, carrying ID is essential to provide paramedics with information relating to your medical conditions and / or allergies and telephone numbers to contact your loved ones in the event of an emergency.

As an active senior, carrying ID will not only be a assurance to you but also those who love / care for you will have greater peace of mind when you are out for a jog, walk or even on the golf course.

Carrying ID is easy using the many ID products out in the market. Our line of ID products are perfect and offer a solution for everyone no matter your colour or design preference.

If you are an active senior, please visit our website today and start carrying your ID and provide peace of mind to yourself and to those who love you. Visit our website http://www.vitalid.ca/ for more information.

Running / Cycling After Dark - Wear Reflective Clothing!

The nights are becoming longer and the daylight hours shorter as we move from fall to winter. Cycling or running at this time of year becomes more difficult and often takes place at dawn before work or after work. Wear runner ID

As the light levels drop as does our visibility to other road users and as such to stay safe you must be vigilant and wear clothing & runner ID that allows you to be seen by others.

Wearing clothing / accessories ncluding runner ID that are bright and colourful rather than dark black / brown is a wise choice as is the use of reflective clothing / accessories to make you highly visible to others.

Often running & cycling shoes have a reflective element on the back of the shoe but this is best viewed as a minimum that needs to be supplemented in the winter months when low-light conditions prevail. Wearing reflective vests or bibs and also supplement your clothing / bike reflectors by use of cost effective reflective adhesive tapes commonly found by companies such as 3M.

At Vital ID we have taken the integration of reflective elements for use in cycling / running to a further degree and incorporated reflective materials into each of our Sports ID / Runner ID products. The Sport ID wristband and the Sport ID shoe incorporate 3M Scotchlite silver reflective material and the Sport ID - helmet product utilizes 3M Scotchlite yellow reflective vinyl.

The reflective runner ID products are the ideal partner for other reflective clothing you may wear and have the added bonus of carrying your personal runner ID whilst you exercise.

Although to maybe wearing reflective clothing, it is still prudent to assume drives cannot see you (which is often difficult due to the glare of other cars headlights / rain/ foggy windshields etc) and avoid busy roads after dark if possible.

Being cautious when exercising after dark and the use of reflective materials to maximise your chances of avoiding any accident and wearing runner ID will allow you to safely run or cycle throughout the dark winter months.

Medical ID - The New Alternative!

Wearing medical ID has become more common in recent years due in part to the increase in childhood allergies and incidence of diabetes across all age ranges. Unfortunately, many people who should wear medical ID (due to a medical condition or allergy) choose not to in part due to the limitations inherent in the traditional metal medical ID bracelets.

Our new Vital ID medical ID bracelets have been carefully designed to address the issues that many people raise about traditional engraved medical ID bracelets and encourage people to wear their essential medical ID.
  • Traditional metal medical ID bracelets are uncomfortable and annoying to wear - People often list this reason at the top of their list for not wearing medical ID. Our Velcro / webbing medical ID bracelet can be adjusted so they fit comfortably and do not ride up and down the wrist as loose fitting metal bracelets can do. The materials we use to construct our medical ID bracelets are carefully selected to ensure the medical ID bracelet is comfortable in use.
  • Metal medical ID bracelets are expensive - they are easily broken and if I change my information I need to buy a new band - Some of the cheaper metal medical ID bracelets are very easily broken. Easily snagged, the chain can break and cannot be repaired. Additionally, these engraved metal medical ID bracelets do not offer the ability to update your information, requiring you to purchase a new medical ID bracelet. Our Vital ID medical ID bracelets are strongly constructed and can endure heavy use. Each of the medical ID bracelets is supplied with 2 ID cards which allow you to update the information stored on your medical ID bracelet.
  • The manufacturer advises me that I have to remove my medical ID bracelet when I shower or go for a swim - what's up with that? - For a medical ID bracelet to be effective it needs to be worn 24/7 as you never know when you might need it. Having to remove your bracelet for any reason increases the chances that it maybe lost or that you may forget to put it back on. Our Vital ID medical ID bracelets are 100% waterproof (even the ID insert cards) and they can be worn when swimming in the pool or ocean. They are built strong enough to withstand everyday use.
  • ID at a reasonable cost - Unlike many other medical ID products, our medical ID bracelets are affordable enough for anyone to purchase and are made of high quality materials and construction methods so are in no way lacking in their look, feel or function.

We encourage all of those people who are required to wear medical ID bracelet due to a medical condition or allergy to do so. Wearing medical ID bracelets can be a lifesaver and having addressed many of the factors that people have against wearing traditional metal ID bracelets, we feel we offer the opportunity for everyone to carry and wear an effective medical ID system.

You're a Parent - Carry ID!

Running / Jogging is increasingly popular and unlike other sports requires little financial investment other than the purchase of a decent pair of running shoes and a simple t-shirt and pair of shorts.

Running is becoming increasingly popular with stay at home moms in recent years and provides moms with an effective way to keep fit and provides an element of social interaction with other like-minded women.

Running can be easily scheduled around family commitments but as busy moms you should seriously consider carrying your ID with you during your regular run.

Carrying Sports ID is vital for everyone that is involved in running, cycling, swimming and other active sports. As parents, athletes who have children to care for should be especially aware of the importance of carrying their ID when they exercise.

Your ID should contain information that a paramedic would find essential in your treatment and ensure that they are able to contact your loved ones in the event you are involved in an accident.

Your ID should contain your name, home address, a note of any medical conditions / allergies and the telephone / mobile numbers of people to be called in the event of an emergency. Carrying this vital information will greatly increase your changes for suitable medical treatment and ensure that your loved ones are immediately notified of your situation.

We all think "it will never happen to me" but being prepared and routinely carrying your ID when you exercise will not only make you feel better yourself, but will also give your family peace of mind when you leave the house to exercise.

Our Vital ID Sport ID products offer a simple an effective solution to carrying your ID when you run, cycle or swim. Each of our Sport ID product's are totally waterproof, the information contained can be easily updated and each of our Sports ID solutions are highly reflective ensuring you are seen by others in low-light conditions.

Our Sport ID range includes a wristband / bracelet ID, a shoe mounted ID and also a unique ID system that attaches to the exterior of your bike or ski helmet.

Each of our ID products ensures that you will be carrying your ID when you need it the most, and for that - your family will thank you!
