ICE - Important to know
ICE. - an abbreviation of "In Case of Emergency" is a rapidly growing movement ensuring that the emergency information you carry is quickly retrieved in the event you are involved in an accident. The original concept conceived by an English paramedic, involves putting the acronym ICE in front of your designated emergency contact on your mobile phone. Once on the scene a paramedic can quickly access your ICE contact on your mobile phone address book and rapidly reach your designated ICE contact. To ensure this system is effective it is essential that you and your ICE partner follow these simple steps- Make sure the person whose name and number you are giving has agreed to be your ICE partner
- Make sure your ICE partner has a list of people they should contact on your behalf - including your place of work
- Make sure your ICE persons number is one that's easy to contact, for example a home number could be useless in an emergency if the person works full-time
- Make sure your ICE partner knows about any medical conditions that could affect your emergency treatment - for example allergies or current medication
- Make sure if you are under 18, your ICE partner is a parent or guardian authorised to make decisions on your behalf - for example if you need a life or death operation
- Should your preferred contact be deaf, then type ICETEXT then the name of your contact before saving the number.
In addition to being a potential lifesaving concept when used in conjunction with a mobile phone, the ICE concept is a vital call to action for other ID solutions where the accident victim is actually carrying this vital information themselves. Our Sport ID - Helmet system is the fist ID product in our range to carry the ICE acronym. On seeing the ICE designation, the attending paramedic simply removes the users ID from the helmet sleeve and therefore have all of the vital lifesaving information they require without the delay and possible inability of reaching your ICE contact. The Sport ID - Helmet system clearly displays the ICE designation and upon removing the waterproof ID card, the paramedic is immediately supplied with your name, home address, medical / allergy details and the contact numbers for two people that can be reached to garner further information and so they can be informed of your situation. Further products in your range will incorporate the ICE designation in the near future. Our helmet ID system can be found on our website http://www.vitalid.ca/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=19

Diabetes & Medical ID
Attention: I Have Diabetes! (Children & Teens) Medical identification provides emergency workers with important information. It allows them to act quickly and to make the right medical decisions for you. Some medicines and treatments work fine for most people, but cause huge problems for people with diabetes. If the nurse in the emergency room or the medic who shows up at your school doesn't know you have diabetes, they have no way of knowing that you shouldn't have a certain drug. Or that you need a certain treatment to deal with a high or low blood sugar. Medical identification can help emergency workers understand why your body is doing what it's doing, or why you're acting the way you are. That's important. Because some of the things that happen because of diabetes could be happening for other reasons. For example, some of the things people do when they are having an insulin reaction are the same kinds of things people do when they've been drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana. You may have never drunk alcohol or smoked a joint. But the person taking care of you may not know that. And that honest confusion could be harmful to you. There's another reason you'll want to be sure the people helping you know you have diabetes. It's that thing called "control." Even if you're injured or unconscious, diabetes still has to be taken care of. Wearing a medical ID lets the person treating you know right away you have diabetes. That way, he or she can check your glucose and make necessary adjustments. That's especially important if the reason you're being treated is diabetes related. But remember that injury can cause shock and stress. So there's a good chance your diabetes will need some attention even if the problem isn't connected to diabetes. But Medical ID's Look So Stupid!
If that's the way you see it, you need to take another look. Medical ID bracelets, necklaces and medallions don't have to look like something only your grandmother would wear. In fact, wearing one can help make you look pretty good! The one requirement of a medical ID is that it can clearly be seen by a person treating you in a medical emergency. After that, how your ID looks is your decision. Except above from the American Diabetes Association "Identify Yourself" sheet. It's vital to wear Medical ID is you suffer from diabetes. See our medical ID wristband range for a design and colour that fits your needs. Labels: Diabetes

Alzheimers Disease - I.D can Help
Dementia is a brain disorder that seriously affects a persons ability to carry out daily activities. The most common form of dementia among older people is Alzheimers disease, which initially involves the parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. Although scientists are learning more every day, right now they still do not know what causes Alzheimers Disease, and there is no cure. Scientists think that as many as 4.5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimers Disease. The disease usually begins after age 60, and risk goes up with age. While younger people also may get Alzheimers, it is much less common. About 5 percent of men and women ages 65 to 74 have Alzheimers, and nearly half of those age 85 and older may have the disease. It is important to note, however, that Alzheimers Disease is not a normal part of aging. As the disease goes on, symptoms are more easily noticed and become serious enough to cause people with Alzheimers or their family members to seek medical help. Forgetfulness begins to interfere with daily activities. People in the middle stages of Alzheimers Disease may forget how to do simple tasks like brushing their teeth or combing their hair. They can no longer think clearly. They can fail to recognize familiar people and places. They begin to have problems speaking, understanding, reading, or writing. Later on, people with Alzheiimers may become anxious or aggressive, or wander away from home. Eventually, patients need total care. Although a small part in the overall caring of an Alzheimers sufferer, encouraging them to wear or carry their ID is a vital part in their day to day activities should they become disorientated or confused. Carrying ID on which is noted their name, address and telephone numbers to contact in an emergency can be a valuable lifeline to your loved one in their time of need. Our medical ID wristbands provide the perfect solution for the person suffering from mild to more severe Alzheimers disease and can be easily updated with new emergency contact details or medical information. Cycling Safety & ID - It could save your life!
We all know that a bike helmet can save your life. Statistics show that bike helmet use is at an all time high, proving that most people that ride a bike have considered the consequences of an accident and that a helmet will protect their most valuable asset - their head! What many people have not considered however, is the need to carry ID when they ride. Specific information such as emergency contact numbers, blood type, allergies or what medication you are taking could prove vital to emergency services in the event you are involved in an accident, enabling you to be quickly and effectively treated and your close family and friends informed of your situation. As unpleasant as it is, the potential for a serious bicycle accident is always present every time you head out on your bike. In 2002, 662 pedal cyclists were killed and an additional 48,000 we injured in traffic crashes in the US. Emerging trends show that cyclists 25 years of age and older made up an increasing proportion of the cyclists involved in accidents, with people of this age more likely to have dependants (children / spouse) that may also suffer from their accident. Ensuring that the emergency medical personnel can easily and quickly locate your personal contact and medical information is vital that they may notify your family of your accident and ensure your treatment is tailored to any specific needs you may have. Out on a training ride - think about cycling safety. Many of use carry no more than a few bucks, a banana or two and a drink... who wants to carry a heavy bulky wallet containing your ID? Out on a leisurely ride with your kids - think about cycling safety. You maybe carrying your wallet but there's a good chance that you do not have emergency contact numbers, your blood type, allergies or medications noted in it. Think about cycling safety in a pro-active way. Thankfully there are more effective and convenient solutions to carrying our ID than hauling your driving license and wallet around 24/7. A new product will soon hit the market that can increase the effectiveness of your helmet and could prove to be a lifesaver after a serious accident cycling safety. Our Sport ID - Helmet ID system provides vital lifesaving information to emergency services / paramedics when you cannot (i.e. if your unconscious or in a high level of pain whereby you cannot give or remember detailed medical and contact information). Information such as your emergency contact numbers, blood type, allergies and medical history can all be accessed quickly by EMS personnel when needed. The Sport ID - Helmet system is:
- Highly Reflective - Constructed using 3M Scotchlite yellow reflective material, the system makes you stand out to other road users in low light conditions and increases your cycling safety
- Highly Visible - Emergency personnel need to be able to quickly locate your ID in a hurry, ensure your ID can easily be found. The Sport ID - Helmet system fits to the exterior of your helmet and is quickly located by EMS and increases your cycling safety
- Updateable Information - Your emergency ID system is only effective if the information it contains is up to date. If you move or change telephone numbers (or if any of your emergency contacts do) you will need to update your information. Our Sport ID - Helmet ID system allows you to update information easily and cheaply. It also keeps your vital information private, away from prying eyes, your information is only visible when the ID card is drawn from the sleeve.
- Safe Access to your ID- Avoid helmet ID systems that require your body to be manipulated or moved to access your ID. Systems that store information inside your bike helmet are particularly poor as they necessitate the removal of your helmet and therefore increase the risk of neck & spinal trauma. Our Sport ID helmet system is fitted to the exterior of your helmet ensuring that accessibility is good and minimizes the potential for further injury and increases your cycling safety
- Durable & Hardwearing- Riding your bike can be both hard on you and your equipment. Dirt, mud, dust and water can infiltrate your equipment and your ID. A soggy wet and dirty ID card is of no use if it cannot be read. Our system uses top quality materials, is extremely durable and the information is stored on quality 100% waterproof ID insert cards.
The system has been tested and proven helmet safe by a respected testing laboratory, ensuring the system will not do damage to the helmet shell material and increase your cycling safety. No matter how invincible we think we are or whether we utter "it will never happen to me" or "I've not been in an accident so far", anyone of us could be the next cyclist involved in an accident. Avoid being the next statistic, the unidentified John or Jane Doe in the back of the ambulance - plan ahead and get ID "You thank yourself if it does ever happen to you". Increase your cycling safety. The Sport ID - Helmet system is available from our websiteMore product information able at www.helmetgear.ca

Kids Travel ID - travel safe!
You've waited a whole year for this......you've flipped through endless brochures, calculated costs and after much disagreement you've finally selected a destination. You pack your clothes, sort and arrange your kids clothes, wrestle them into a suitcase and make sure all of your bags are ID tagged and ready to go.
Last years vacation is fresh in your mind and the missing suitcase fiasco at the airport put a slight dent in your otherwise perfect travel plans. But your not going to let that happen to you again. All of your suitcases are properly tagged so if they get separated from you again you know you'll be reunited with your bags quickly. Feels good knowing your prepared!
But what about your kids? You may have packed their favourite t-shirt, beach towels and inflatable toy, but what if you got separated from them at a busy airport or crowded beach. Unlike your suitcase, they don't carry a tag. How easy would it be for you to be reunited with them if you become separated? .... time to think Travel ID
This year along with properly tagging your suitcases, it is always a good idea to ensure your kids know what to do if they became separated from you and also have them wear travel ID. Proper forward planning and the small investment in a travel ID bracelet will give you peace of mind and a great deal of comfort knowing that your properly prepared if you do become accidentally separated from your child in a busy airport or crowded beach.
Our kids Travel ID bands provide the answer to this holiday nightmare and they have several features that will make them your essential Travel ID partner on your upcoming family vacation. - Multi-Language - No matter which country your planning to vacation in, our Travel ID bands provide the answer. "If I'm Lost - Look Inside" is written on the outside of the bands in English, French & Spanish making the message the travel ID carried understood in many countries.
- Fully Waterproof - can be worn when swimming in the hotel pool or in the ocean so no need to remove your kids ID before they take the plunge
- Tough & Rip-proof - Our Travel ID bands are made from a soft yet strong material that will not rip or tear in use
- Fully Updateable - Your changing hotels or flight, no problem. These Travel ID bands are cost effective an disposable. If you plans change, take another from the pack, fill out your new details and your set.
Your a great parent, but being accidentally separated from your kids in a crowded airport or busy beach can still happen and it's best to be prepared and have your kids know what to do and let them know how important it is to wear their Travel ID.
In a situation you are separated in an airport, let you kid's know what to do so they don't panic. Possibly suggest they approach an airline check in desk let the attendant know that they have been separated from their parents and have them show the attendant their travel ID band. Using the numbers on the band or other information you have written on it they will ensure that you are quickly reunited with your child.
On a busy beach, let your kids know to approach another parent with kids (it is generally more advisable than approaching a lone adult) and let them know what has happen and show them the Travel ID band. All parents have experienced or can relate to the emotional pain of being accidentally separated from their child so will do all they can to ensure that you and your child are quickly reunited.
The advice you give your child on what to do if they become separated from you will vary depending on the child and the parent generally will know what will work and present the topic in a way not alarm their child.
Travel ID is not just for your suitcase, ensure your child wears Travel ID on your next vacation.
